Tokyo Olympics: Canadian Olympic Committee’s top doctor “confident” in athlete safety | FULL

The Canadian Olympic Committee’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mike Wilkinson said on Thursday that he’s “confident” the committee has done “everything it can” to keep athletes safe during the Games amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Wilkinson outlined the steps the committee has taken to ensure athlete safety, including monitoring of air quality and increased sanitation. The committee’s president, Tricia Smith, spoke about the months leading up to the Tokyo Olympics, as case numbers in Canada and other countries increased before dropping off in the summer, saying “we all had doubts.” She said Canada’s Olympic committee had been working to minimize risks to the athletes as the Olympics approached.
