Can Boeing fix its problems, regain trust after safety failures?
Once a pillar of American technology and manufacturing, Boeing is now in turmoil, after a series of safety failures that seem to be prompting CEO Dave Calhoun to step down. In January, a door panel fell off a Boeing 737 midair which – while causing no serious injuries – harkened back to the deadly 2018 and 2019 crashes of Boeing 737s in Indonesia and Ethiopia, killing 346 people. The January incident also triggered ongoing investigations by the Justice Department and the National Transportation Safety Board. Richard Aboulafia, managing director at AeroDynamic Advisory, and Javier de Luis, an aerodynamics lecturer at MIT who served on the FAA advisory panel, joined Gautam Mukunda to discuss what went wrong, and how Boeing can begin to turn things around. 01:27 What did Boeing's safety report show?
